Matheran is a famous hill station located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. This place boasts of a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva known as Sri Pisarnath Temple. The temple is situated near the Charlotte Lake, which is a popular tourist spot in the region. Matheran is known for its picturesque locations. Airport
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, is the nearest airport to Matheran. Taxis can be hired from the Mumbai airport to reach Matheran by road. Pune Airport is also located close to Matheran.
Railways
Train services up to Neral Junction are available from Mumbai and Pune. Toy train is available to reach Matheran from Neral. The tickets for the Toy train can be booked in advance from Mumbai and Pune. Many express trains also stop at Karjat station from where a local train can be boarded to reach Matheran.
Road
Matheran can be reached through the Mumbai-Pune Highway and Karjat. State transport buses ply regular services from Mumbai, Pune and Panvel to Matheran. Buses can also be availed till Neral from where toy train can be taken to reach Matheran. Rental cabs are available from Mumbai and Pune. It should be noted that vehicles are not allowed inside the town of Matheran in order to preserve its natural environment. So the place has to be explored either by walking or taking a ride over horses.
