Overview
Ramanathapura is one prominent pilgrimages of Karnataka. The town is set on River Cauvery and is also called "Dakshina Kashi" or Kashi of the South. Prasanna Sri Subramanya Temple, Sri Rameshwara Temple, Sri Agasteshwara temple, Pattabhirama Temple are some of the most prominent temples of Ramanathapura. The name of the town has however been derived from the famous Pattabhirama Temple of this place.
About The Temple
Pattabhirama Temple of Ramanathapura, Hassan stand as testimony to the architectural magnificence of the Chola and Hoysala ages in the history of medieval India. The temple also excels in artistic sculpture. Besides the finely carved pillars inside, the ornate gopura and intricately latticed walls with rows of parakeets above mantapas are eye-catching. Walking behind the temple to the western side, the wide steps lead to the river. The familiar sight here is the children offering beaten rice and groundnuts for fish in the water. A stretch of one km each on either side has been declared a protected zone and fishing is banned
