Patanjaleeswarar Temple

The Patanjaleeswarar Temple is located in Kanattampuliyur and is dedicated to God Patanjaleeswarar. The divine serpent Adisesha served as a bed to God Mahavishnu in the nectar ocean. The serpent took the form of Sage Patanjali to enjoy the dance of God Shiva. God Shiva granted the serpent his Dance Darshan in Chidambaram. God Shiva advised Saint Patanjali to come to this place and perform penance. God appeared before the sage and asked him if he was satisfied with his dance darshan, Patanjali replied that he would never be content with the darshan once or twice and that should be before him for ever. God assured Patanjali that he would be offering the darshan in many places. There are shrines for God Kasi Viswanatha, God Nirudhi Vinayaka, Mother Gajalakshmi. In the front hall, God Kirshna graces between two serpents (nagas) and a Linga among serpents.
