Paramapada Nathar Temple

The Paramapada Nathar Temple is located in the Kancheepuram District and is dedicated to God Vaikunda Perumal Parmapada Nathar. The God is found in standing, sitting and reclining forms under the Ashtanga Mukunda Vimana. The region once known as Vidharba Desa was ruled by King Virocha. Due to a curse incurred in his last birth he was childless. A staunch Shiva devotee, he prayed to God Kailasanatha in Kancheepuram by conducting a yajna. God Shiva blessed the king with two sons, who were the Dwarapalakas of God Vishnu. Though they were born as princes, the two boys continued to be devotees of God Vishnu and conducted yajna for the welfare and prosperity of the people in that region. Pleased with their devotion, God Maha Vishnu granted Darshan as Vaikundanatha to the princes. The sanctum sanctorum and the first prakara - corridor are of Kudavarai type, built with sand rock. The temple is called Mummada Koil. Mother Vaikundavalli blesses the devotees from a shrine facing east in the front Mandap.
