Papnash Shiva Temple

Papnash Shiva temple is situated in Bidar district in Northeast Karnataka. According to local legend, this temple and idol was installed by Lord Rama on his way back to Ayodhya from Lanka. The original temple was lost and at the ruins of the ancient temple, a new one was later built. This temple is located in a beautiful valley. There is a large pond at the foot of the temple which is constantly fed by a natural spring. This pond is known as Papnash.

Meaning -We worship the fragrant Lord Shiva, who has 3 eyes and who cultivates all beings. May He free me from death, for immortality, as even a cucumber is separated from its bond with the vine.
