This holy temple is also known by the devotees as Uttara Chidambaram Temple. It is constructed on the National Highway 4 which connects Solapur District to Satara.

About The Temple

This temple is similar to the one built at Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu but is smaller in size. God Natraja is worshipped in this temple and it is believed that God Shiva transformed himself in God Nataraja while performing the Tandava dance. There are several shrines built in the temple which are dedicated to God Ganapathi, God Hanuman, God Krishna, God Navgraha and many more. In the temple, a Veda Patasala is also conducted by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam.

History of the Temple

During the Vyasa Puja conducted at Satara in the year 1980, Mahaswami Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi desired to build a temple at Satara which would be similar to the ancient Nataraja Temple at Chidambaram. Soon a devotee named Samanna gifted a plot of land to the Swami to build this temple.

The temple was then established in the year 1981. The various philanthropists and governments of states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Kerala helped build this temple by supplying the construction material like timber and other aids. The extraordinary Nataraja Temple was hence built in Satara comprising of Gopurams in four gateways and beautiful carvings despite of its smaller size. It took 3 years to construct this temple.

The holy ritual of Kumbabbhishekam for the consecration of the Uttara Chidambaran Temple at Satara was performed in the year 1984 in the presence of Swami Sri Jayendra Saraswati. Funds were raised by the devotees and Swami Jayendra Saraswati to conduct the daily worship and Dikshitas at the holy temple.
