- Tell us about this temple
Jagannath Prasad Ghosh, the local landlord, built this temple in the mid 18th century. This temple is a Panchayatana temple, where there are 5 separate temples on a square plinth, where the largest one is at the center and the other 4 smaller ones are at the four corners. A large, black stone Lingam and four smaller, white stone Lingams are placed at the center of the central temple and there is one Shiva Lingam inside each of the smaller temples, thus bringing the total to 9, i.e. the Navaratnas. Prominent Ratha-Paga patterns adorn the sides and the ridged turrets in these Rekh Deul styled temples. Beautiful albeit dilapidated terracotta art decorate the temples. It is perhaps the only example of a Panchayatana temple in West Bengal today, although it has been said that there is another one at Baikanthapur, Barddhaman.
