The Mariamman Temple is located in Sathyamangalam and is dedicated to Mariamman. The temple is situated in the North West boundary of Kongu Nadu - an ancient land of mountains, rivers and forests - about 14 kms from Sathyamangalam in Erode. The Shobana Mantapa in front of the temple has 24 pillars. There are other mantapams too - the Artha Mantapa and the Maha Mantapa, along with separate shrines to Vinayaka, Bommairayan, Madeswara SARUGU Mariamman and Muniyappa in and around the temple. The story goes that there was once a cowherd who noticed that one of his cows did not let him milk her, nor did she give her calf milk. He noticed that she went to a Vengai tree and let her milk flow onto a spot under it. When they went to take a closer look, they found a sand hill and a Lingam there. They heard a voice of a Goddess Bannari Amman. A temple was built in that spot and people came here to pray to her.
