Mallikarjuna Temple

Situated in Somvar peth, this massive, old Malikarjuna temple belongs to the Lingayats. Over 28 solid pillars support the mandap that has an Anandi image in its traditional pose. An idol of Gajanan, placed in a specially prepared wooden frame, is present near the image chamber. A brass image of Ganapati with a Nandi on its left and a small ling on its right is present on the gabhara lintel. The door of the 12 sq ft gabhara is plated with brass. Well-painted images of Sankar and Parvati form the background for the marble ling in the gabhara and a brass hooded cobra shelters the ling. The temple has an 18 ft high dipmal outside.
