About the temple

The main attraction of Thodikanaa is a temple dedicated to Lord Mallikarjun (Lord Shiva). The temple is one of the most famous Siva temples in Sullia taluk. It is believed that the Mallikarjun Temple at Thodikanaa was constructed in 13th century. The temple attracts hundreds of visitors every week.

There is a fish tank near the temple known as "Meenugundi". Visitors who visit the temple come here and feed the fishes with raw rice. These are considered to be sacred and never killed, but fed by the temple authorities. On the outer wall of temple, just like any other temple of the region, there are paintings depicting the story related to the temple. There is Yajna Kund (a pit where fire is lit and offerings made for the gods) believed to be used by Sage Kanvaa. Even this day, one can see the smoke coming out of it.
