Mahakali Temple

Overview


The Mahakali Temple is symbolic for the city of Chandrapur and is an important temple for the people there. The temple is visited by the devotees every day but Tuesdays attract the maximum crowds. The devotees visit the temple for an annual fair held in April in the Mahakali temple.


About The Temple


The present deity in the temple is that of Goddess Mahakali. Of the two idols in the temple, the main idol is adorned in red yellow and orange clothes and is in association with the Shiva Linga. In order to reach the second idol which is in a reclining position one must travel through a tunnel because it is placed below the ground level

There are two entrances to the temple premises, the front entrance has the Ganesha and Hanuman temples and has small shops (for pooja supplies) while near the rear entrance there is a shani temple.


How to Reach Chandrapur

Airport

Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur is the nearest and at a five hour drive from Chandrapur. Private buses and taxis are available from the airport to Chandrapur.


Railways

The Chandrapur railway station is loacted at the major New Delhi-Chennai line and links the city to New Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore, Lucknow, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Allahabad, Indore, Puri, Ahmedabad and other cities within the state.


Road

Chandrapur is connected to major cities such as Aheri, Amravati, Akola, Shirdi, Hyderabad, Gondia and Aurangabad by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and other private bus services.
