Ganesh Temple

Overview : Ganapati Panchyatan is Ganesh temple located at Sangli.Here a svayambhu Ganesha is mounted on a Sivalinga.This temple of tutelary deity of Sangli is located on the banks of Krishna river.Due to this deity blessings Patvardhan Sardars attained great power and triumph. The temple includes several other shrines of Cintamanesvar, Cinta-manesvari, Suryanarayan and Laksmi-Narayam.It was built in 1844 by Sri Appasahch Patvardhan.The stones for building the temple were transported from Jyotiba hills nearby Kohlapur on vast platforms by means of 15 bullocks to pull each platform.The temple is erect on a quadrangular court besides a wall flanked by two supports in addition to loopholes for musketry surrounding the Chiefs house.Later in 1952 Sri Cintamanrav Appasaheb Patvardhan built the mandap using the similar kind of stone which was inaugurated by Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan.The temple is present amid a courtyard enclosed by coconut palms and other ranges of trees.It has a massive red sandstone gate.The sabhamandap is supported by 8 extremely polished and decorative pillars.Both sides of the mandap has gallaries.The walls have holy hymns from the Bhagvad Gita.The original edifice was built by Sri Appiisaheb Patvardhan on a dais having 14 polished black stone pillars.The floor has same colour tiles.The gabhara has a small dome-like white marble structure positioned on pedestal prepared of black stone in which a white marble Ganapati idol having Ridhi and Sidhi to his right and left respectively is placed.The mandap has a fine terrace besides tiny replicas of the main sikhar are seen in the corner.

Gajaananam Bhoota Ganaadhi Sevitam Kapitta Jamboophaala Saara Bhakshitam Umaasutam Shoka Vinaasha Kaaranam Namaami Vighneswara Paada Pankajam

Meaning -Oh elephant-faced Lord, who is served by all the Ganas, who consumes the essence of Kapitta and Jamboophala, His favourite fruits, who is Uma's son, who destroys the gloom of His devotees, who handles hurdles, we worship your lotus feet.

Tatpurushaaya Vidmahe Vakratundaaya Dheemahe Tanno Danthihi Prachodayaat

Meaning -We meditate on the great power, we call upon the single tusked Ganesh, who grants wishes.
