About The Temple

Gadidam Venkataramana Swamy Temple was constructed by King Janamejaya for washing away the sins caused by killing of snakes in the Sarpayaga in the Mahabharata. The temple was later renovated by the Chola and Vijayanagara kings. After the Mahabharata period, the temple was forgotten and the murti remained covered by an anthill. Thousand years later a Chola king had a dream about the murti and he discovered the murti and installed it. Today the Prasanna Venkateswara murti is flanked by Goddess Bhudevi and Goddess Nila Devi. Nearby the temple flows the Chitravati and the Gadidam mountains are to the south of the temple. The huge temple complex also houses the murits of Saptamatrikas.
