Deogarh (Fort of Gods) with its deep historical reference and religious significance is a town, 33 km from Lalitpur district in the northern town of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of Betwa River. The best season to visit the place is from September to May. The nearest railway station is 13 km from Deogarh, Jakhlaun. Deogarh is an ideal tourist destination. It holds the remains of structures built by several dynasties as the Guptas, Gurjara Pratiharas, Gonds, Mughals, Bundelas and the Marathas. There are several temples and Jain shrines in the area. A temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Dashavatar temple constructed during the Gupta period displays artistic sculptures. The 31 Jain temples inside the Deogarh Fort are a popular attraction. Among these temples the Jain Tirthankar Shantinath is very famous. The Chandela kings decorated the temples with the marvelous panels depicting scenes from the Hindu scriptures like Gajendra Moksha, Nar-Narayan Tapasya and Anantasayi Vishnu who excels in beauty. The temples display sculpted scenes from the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana. The inscriptions in Sanskrit and Prakrit are of equal significance.
