Overview
The Chidambaraswamy Temple is a Shiva temple situated at the Chowwara town of Ernakulam District, Kerala.
About the Temple
This renowned temple is one among the 108 Shivalayas (Shiva temples) in Keraala. Lord Shiva grace here as Lord Chidambaraswamy, facing the direction west. The Siva Linga in this temple was brought from the world famous Nataraja temple at Chidambaram. Hence the deity here got the name Chidhambaraswamy. The Lord here is worshipped as Kiratha Moorthy.
Festivals
The annual temple festival is celebrated here in the malayalam month of Makara which commences on the star of Thiruvathira. The week-long festival ends with Arattu. Traditional art and music performances along with other cultural activities are the highlights of this annual festival.
The shrine gets a perfect make over during this festive season with traditional decorations made with flowers, leaves, coconut fronds, plantain, lamps and lights.
