Overview
Chateswar Temple is an ancient pilgrimage centre in the South east coast of India and is situated in the Krishnapur village in Cuttack district. The temple, located in Orissa, enshrines a Shiva lingam within a circular yoni-pitha.
About the Temple
The architectural pattern and the craftsmanship of Chateswar Temple tell that the shrine had been constructed in the 12th century, during the reign of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. Besides the Shiva lingam, the temple also enshrines idols of Goddess Chamunda, Lord Surya, Lord Buddha and Udyotasimha, all in a ruined state. A small image of Lord Vishnu possessing four arms and a Nandi is also in the temple.

The presiding deity is Lord Shiva. It is a living temple.

A large crowd can be witnessed on Mondays. Special pooja and ceremonial ritual are conducted in a grand manner on all the Hindu religious festival days. The family members indulge in this pooja in order to appease lord Vishnu and achieve a person's and desires fulfilled. It is to be remembered that a person who wishes to perform Shri Satyanarayan puja on each and every poornima day can begin on Kartika poornima day. Shri satyanarayana puja is conducted in a grand manner during the Kartika pournima day in this temple.
