Chandranath Temple

The Chandranath temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Paroda, Goa. This temple is located atop a small hill Chandranath Parvat, 14 kilometres from Margao. The presiding deity is Lord Chandreswar An incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Shiva Ling in this temple is positioned in such a way that it gets bathed in moonlight every full moon day. The other deity here is Lord Boothnath.Chandreshwar Bhootnath Temple is also known as Shri Chandreshwar Bhootnath Temple. It is a ancient shrine of Hindu people and one of the religious tourist site of Goa. This temple is dedicated to an incarnation of Shiva, The Lord of the Moon. People believed that this temple is 2500 years old. This temple is associated with the Bhoja dynasty. In the 8th century, Bhoja Dynasty were the rulers of the region. So the Bhoja's family deity, Lord Chandreshwar the name of their capital Chandrapur (today's Chandor) was derived. Inside the temple there is a Shivalinga is located. That is made of natural outcrop of rock and is placed in such a way that it gets bathed on full moon nights in moonlight. After you see a smaller temple that is dedicated to Chandreshwar's Lord. Near the peepul tree, there is also another shrine that is dedicated to Lord Bhutnath. Lord Bhootnath who is the lord of ghosts. In this temple you also see the ancient chariot is well known for its wood carvings. Shri Chandreshwar Bhootnath Temple is located on the Chandranath parvat, a heavily wooded hill on Paroda Parvat. To reach this temple by climbing the huge granite steps or by a drive up over a metal led road. This temple is dedicated to an incarnation of Shiva, The Lord of the Moon.
