The Baidyanath Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. It is situated in Baideswar, Banki, near Cuttack.


About The Temple


The temple has a Pidha Viman and pillared G.I. sheet roofed mandapa of the impoverished kalinga order. The inner Parsvadevata Niches house the various Nisha shrines of the temple and there is a step well on the Northern side. The temple is simple and non-decorative save for a few, stucco Maithuna images on the Bada and the Parsvadevata niches. The temple is a Sandstone structure with the entire temple thickly plastered and whitewashed. A laterite and brick compound wall surrounds the entire temple. Temple is famous for celebrating festivals like Sivaratri and Kartika Purnima. Salvation, Wealth, Relief from diseases, Knowledge and Vehicular happiness are just some of the reasons devotees flock to the temple and offer prayers.

Cuttack has an Air Base named Charbatia Air Base for the exclusive use of the Indian Air Force. The nearest commercial airport is the Biju Patnaik Airport at Bhubaneswar, about 28 km away. Cuttack Junction is one of the important stations on the Howrah, Kolkata-Chennai mainline of the East Coast Railway and falls under the Khurda Road division. The bus terminus at Cuttack is located at Badambadi, and is one of the largest bus terminuses in India.
