The Ashtabhuja Devi temple is situated at the top of a Vindhya mountain in Vindhayachal, Uttar Pradesh . According to Hindu Mythology, the Lord Krishna was the eight child of Vasudev and Devaki. Due to a prophecy, King Kamsa had killed the previous six children of the couple while the seventh son Balarama was transferred to the Womb of Rukmini Devi, who was another wife of Vasudev. On the night of Krishna’s birth, Vasudev had left Krishna in Brindavan as Yashoda’s son and had brought back her girl child, who was an incarnation of Devi Durga. When Kamsa tried to kill this girl child, she flew miraculously from his hands, and descended right at the place where the Vindhyashini temple is located. Ashtabhuj devi temple is situated inside a cave of a hillock, around 3 km from the Vindhyashini temple. The temple surrounding is calm and peaceful, which provides a unique experience for the devotees. The Ashtabhuja Temple derives its name from the deity ‘Ashtabhuja’ who is a form of Goddess Mahasaraswati. The idol of this temple is located inside a cave which is about 12 feet wide. The cave has a low entry but ends with a high exit. There is a flight of 222 steps which leads to the temple.
How To Reach Vindhayachal
Plilgrims travelling to Vindhyachal can take a direct flight to the Varanasi airport from places like Delhi and Lucknow. Varanasi lays around 90 kms from Vindhyanchal. Few airline service providers are Air India, Jet Airways, IndiGo and Kingfisher Airlines who provide frequent flight services from nearby cites. Pre paid taxis are available from the airport to reach the temple.
The Varanasi Junction which is approximately 90kms from the Vindhyanchal is the closest railway station. Regular train services connect this junction with other major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Taxi and bus services are available from the railway stations to reach this temple.
Vindhyachal is a famous pilgrimage center in Uttar Pradesh which is accessible by road. Various state-run and privately owned buses operate regular services from many nearby towns and cites. Travelling to this place by road is most recommended, since it helps the tourists to explore the real beauty of the region, thus making their journey a memorable one.
