The Arulmigu Veerakkumaraswamy Temple is located in Vellakoil and is dedicated to God Veerakkumaraswamy. Over 600 years ago, this region was a forest. The notable people in those times were Aantha Kula Nallana Gounder, Thanam Seya Kula Palani Gounder, Salem Chinnamalai Gounder, Devana Gounder and Mada Kula Sellappa Gounder. Nallana Gounder's son Mudali Gounder appointed Santhana Nadar to manage the cows in his fields. One particular cow was not producing any milk. Nallana Gounder suspected Santhana Nadar. Santhana Nadar finally found out that the cow had been pouring its milk on a sand pile or a puttru. Mudali Gounder also saw the same sight the next day. When the cow poured its milk on the sand pile, a snake with the face of a child appeared and drank the milk. Mudali Gounder called this, an appearance by God Muruga and called him Veerakumaran. Mudali Gounder built a temple and announced it through Santhana Nadar.
