Legend and Stories

Arulmigu Subramanyaswamy Temple

Once, Saint Dhurvasar travelled to Kunnathur that is 18 kilometers south of Gobi town. He worshipped and bowed at Shiva temple at Kunnathur. Then he found out that a place called Modachur on the outskirts of Gobi town is a perfect place to perform his daily worship of Shiva. While worshiping, he wanted to get the Darshan of God Subramanya. Unable to find a temple, he went into deep and austere penance to find out the best place for the worship. He found by virtue of his penance that there is a Subramanya temple on a little hill at a distance of around 1.5 kms from Modachur. The main deity faced west. The saint reached the hill to find God Subramanya and continued his worship. He also learnt the peculiarities and common points between the temple and Palani where the God is facing west as Dhandapani.

Poojas

The Pooja activities and worships at Pachaimalai are renowned. The 'ArthaJama' poojai is similar to the one at Palani. Arulmigu Balamurugan takes the simplest form with white clothes sans his ornamental jewels. This is the most peaceful and pleasing scene, one can ever get in their life.

Significance

The temple is renowned for the 'Vaasthu' poojai where people bring the brick to enact poojai at the Sannidhanam. 'Ayyappa Maalai' in Karthigai month is also popular here. Couples who are childless perform their Sashti fasting here to be blessed with offsprings. It is said that the couple who fast at Pachaimalai would be blessed with a child. The unmarried pray to 'Kalyana' Subramanyar and Guru Dhakshinamurthy to get married.
