About the Temple

The Sholingur Hill Temple is dedicated to Yoga Narasimhar and is located in Kadikachalam. The alternate names of the Perumal are "Thakaan" and "Akkarakani". Akkaram implies Money and Wealth. Sholingur is in the Vellore region of Tamil Nadu. Vellore is the headquarters of the district and is around 43 kilometers away from Sholingur. The closest metro is Chennai, around situated 120kilometersto the south-east. A well known journey focus in the region of Sholingur is Thiruttani, which is 25kilometersaway. There are Four Pushkaranies.

1.Amirtha Theertham (Thakkan Kulam).

About the Deity

Lord Narasimha Swamy appears in yoga posture wearing Chalakkrama at Big Hill Temple. A bar depicting Ten Avatars of Perumal is seen. Sun and Moon are at the feet of Lord Narasimha.

Legend

Narasimha is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the Dasavathara. Master Narasimha, in the wake of killing the evil presence, Hiranyakashipu, in the Narasimha symbol came to this slope to favor the saptha rishis, who were doing atonement at the Kadikachalam slope. The sapta (seven) rishis are: Vasistha, Kasyapa, Athiri, Jamadagni, Gautama,Bharathwaja and Viswamitra. They did compensation at this slope for a Kadigai (24 minutes), prostrating before Lord Narasimha. Master Narasimha secured his fan Prahalada in the wake of killing evil presence Hiranyakashipu and came to here straight from Ahobilam (in Andhra Pradesh) and allowed moksha to these Maharishis. Thus this spot came to be called as Kadikachalam. The individuals who adore this Lord for a Kadigai, they will be honored by this God. Aarti/Pooja/seva

Nithiyapadi Poojas are performed in all the three temples - Big Hill, Small Hill and the Local Temple . The pooja is performed under Vaikanasa Agama.The heriditary seva is done by Dhoddachar Swami and is given the first preference in Theertham and Manthra Pushpa. The recital of vetha, Prabantham and Andal Thirupavai are the daily feature of the Temple. The sucessors of swami Dhoddachar perform this

There are several cottages of the Devasthanam and the rent is Rs. 250/- and 500/- per 24 hours according to the facility.

Significance

In Karthigai sundays people pray Lord after taking bath in the Chakkra Theertham and by lying down on its steps. People belive that Lord come and fulfill the wishes of the devotees in their dreams.
