The story of this shrine as it unfolded is...when Hanuman went in search of Sanjeevini, the herb with magical healing properties that would be used to rescue the dying Lakshmana he loses his way. Losing his sense of direction a thirsty and weary Hanuman descends on this hillock. Sensing the criticality of Hanuman's pursuit of Sanjeevani, God Murugan appears as Subramania. Explaining to the mighty Hanuman, God Subramania directs him up north towards the right mountain ranges where Sanjeevani may be found. To address Hanuman's thirst and tiredness, the caring Subramania carves a stream of water with his weapon the divine javelin (Vel). Miraculosly till now this water hole has not gone dry. Defying logic, this underground water hole is situated high above the hills and contains medicinal and healing properties.
