Aayirathu Enn Vinayaka Temple

The Aayirathu Enn Vinayaka Temple is located in Arumuga Mangalam and is dedicated to God Aayirathu Enn Vinayakar. Initially, the Brahmins of the region installed the deity on the banks of the Teppakulam or float tank and continued their worship. The Artha mandapam and sanctum sanctorum were built first and then the shrines for Kalahastheeswarar, Kalyani Amman and Mahamandap were constructed. Soon, more extensions were added. The flag post, car and procession deities were contributed by Tiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam. The roof top and other mandapams were added much later. In the fourth century, a king called Somara Vallabab gathered 1, 008 Brahmins to conduct a Yagna. However, they were short of one Brahmin. It is said that God Vinayaka appeared there in the form of a Brahmin to help in conducting the Yagna. Therefore, the Vinayaka is called Aayirathu Enn Vinayaka or the 1008th Vinayaka.
