Bhadrapada Amavasya

A dark or a non-moon day in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September) is known as Bhadrapada Amavasya. This day is celebrated differently over the different states of India. In Tamil Nadu, this day is known as Avani Amavasya. This day holds a great significance for the Marwari community, they call this day as Bhado Amavasya or Bhadi Amavasya. Hindus observe fast on this day in order to gain peace and harmony and some others visit Ganga river to pray for the calmness of their loved ones' souls who are no longer.
