VD 1

The Vaishno Devi temple located at the Trikuta Mountains in Jammu and Kashmir, India is dedicated to Goddess Durga who gives darshan in the form of Goddess Vaishno Devi. Vaishno Devi is one of the 108 shakti peethas. The Temple is believed to be one of the oldest Hindu temple in the world dating back to the Treta Yuga.

According to the Chanddi-up-purana, in the begining of Treta Yuga, there was a demon called “Mur” who did penance towards God Brahama. Pleased by his penance, God Brahma gave a boon to “Mur” stating that he cannot be killed by any human being, god or any one born on Earth. Soon the demon “Mur” started terrorizing the devas and humans. In time, he tried attacking God Vishnu, who prayed to Goddess Parvati (Incarnation of Adi Parashakthi) to help eliminate the Demon ” Mur”. Goddess Parvati took the form of human and was as Kumari and eliminated the demon “Mur”.
