What is the significance of the prayer room in our homes

COCONUT

In this post, we will focus on understanding why every house has a room allotted just for god known as the Puja room.

A prayer room or a puja room exists in most of the Indian homes. Devotees light a lamp in front of the Gods and worship them. Practices such as reciting Gods name continuously – Japa, reading of Hindu scriptures – Paaraayana, meditation, prayers and devotional singing and other spiritual practices are practiced inside a prayer room. During special occasions, every member of the family old or young worships the Divine in the prayer room.

God is the creator of all-living being; us being one of his creations we could at least consider him as a very welcome guest. Just like how we would treat an important guest with the best of comfort likewise we should felicitate the presence of the God in our homes by having a prayer room, decorating and keeping it clean at all times. Every room in the house has significance; a prayer room captures the grace of the Divine, sound vibrations and sacred thoughts pervades the place. We feel rejuvenated, calm and spiritually uplifted. Hence, a prayer room creates a positive atmosphere.
