Significance Of Fridays During Aadi

Among the Hindus of the south, the Tamil month of Aadi is considered to be highly auspicious and significant. Even though, no new endeavors are initiated during this time period, special pujas and rituals are conducted by several devotees to get their wishes and desires fulfilled.

During the Tamil month of Aadi, every Friday (Velli Kizahamai) is considered to be auspicious and ideal for worshiping Hindu Goddesses, especially the various incarnations of Shakti. In this significant day, majority of the Hindus follow the practice of performing pujas that are dedicated to Nagas (Snakes). In the year of 2015, the Aadi month starts on July 17th and ends on August 17th.

SIGNIFICANCE OF AADI VELLI?

The 5 Fridays in the Aadi month are considered very auspicious and can be used to improve one’s life. Goddess Shakti is said to be very powerful on this particular day, thus it is the most ideal day to offer prayers to the Goddess for career upliftment, good relationship with boss , better health and well being.

IMPORTANCE OF AADI PARASHAKTI

According to vedic traditions, dakshinayana punyakalam, the night of the Devas, begins on the first day of the month Aadi. It is marked on July 17, 2015. The sun changes its direction during this period and next six months is the night time of the gods. Due to this reason, no auspicious events are held in the month. However this month is special in the Amman temples for many Abhishegams and Pujas to gain the Mercy of Goddess Aadhi Parashakti.

HINDU WOMEN AND AADI VELLI

Among the Hindu women, one of the most common ritual witnessed is the gathering of friends and neighbors in order to perform spiritual pujas and exchanging the Thamboolam – a plate containing Betal leaves, Betel nuts, turmeric, kumkuma, coconut and cloth – after Friday prayers.

In the Aadi month, there are 5 Fridays which has its own spiritual significance, with only one Friday left, make sure to pray to Goddess Shakti and fulfill your wishes and desires.

  • The first Friday on July 17th features Goddess Durga who starts the Goddess month off by clearing any negativity that is in the way. She is a fierce protector and is also gentle and ready to help out those who pray for her help.
  • The second Friday on July 24th, Vadivudai is at hand ready to bless you with beauty, wisdom and guide you in romantic relationship. She is known as the Beauty Goddess.
  • The third Friday on July 31st, Indraprasadavalli, the goddess the celestials, Devotees flock and pray to gain super power, bestows any seeker higher inner power, drive and initiative to charge ahead wisely.
  • The fourth Friday on August 07th, Goddess Karpagambal along with Lord Shiva, grants the energy to strengthen your marriage, bring in the lost peace and harmony or will grant you a marriage. This month itself is not seen as a good month to get married but prayers said in this month make manifest very soon.
  • The fifth Friday on August 14th – (Aadi Amavasai) No moon day in Aadi month dedicated to offering Shradh and Tarpan to ancestors.
