The Significance of Masi month. Feb 13th to Mar 13th

  1. Lord Maha Vishnu is said to have incarnated on the Masi Magam day.
  2. Sankatakara Chaturthi that fall on the Masi month is considered very auspicious. Devotees who fast on this day will be relieved of all Doshas. (14-Feb-17)
  3. On Masi Magam, Parvathi Devi was born as a right sided conch (Valampuri Sangu) on a lotus flower that floated on the Kaalinthi River.
  4. Lord Shiva performed most of his Thiruvilaiyadal during the Masi month.
  5. Initiation of Mantra deksha is considered auspicious in the month of Masi.
  6. Kulasekara Alwar was born on Punvasu star of the Masi month.
  7. Masi Magam reinforces the significance of Annadhan. (Free food to people)
  8. Lord Muruga educated his father Lord Shiva at Swamimalai on the Pusam star day of Masi month.
  9. Two ekadasi’s, that can cleanse even the devils and Brahmahathi, fall in the month of Maasi.
  10. Initiation of research and higher education can be done on Masi Magam day.
  11. Agasthiar performed thapas (meditation) and received all that he wished in this month.
  12. Karadaiyan nombu and savithri nombu are two important festivals of this month. Kamadhakan festival is celebrated on Masi Maham day.
  13. Housewarming ceremonies are held in this month as it is believed that people tend to reside in the house for a longer period of time.
  14. This month is also called Mangalya month.
  15. People born on Masi Maham are said to rule the world. As per the famous proverb “Maasi kayaru paasi padium”,  women folk change their Thirumangalyam (Mangalsutra) in this month.
  16. People who are not able to have a dip in any holy river for the Masi Maham can instead read the Masi Maha Puram or can listen to it.
  17. Theppa villa is celebrated in the Nellaiyappar temple lotus pond. It is also called Apar theppam.
  18. Devotees who worship Vishnu with a tulsi strand after an early morning bath will be admitted in the Vaikundam – The Abode of Lord Vishnu
  19. Devotees who pray to Goddess Ambikai by performing kumkum Archana on Masi Maham day will be blessed with Victory and Happiness.
  20. To excel in studies one has to decorate Goddess Saraswati with fragrant flowers of the Shukla Paksha Panchami.

Just reading the significance by itself is a blessing.
