The Ulagalantha Perumal Temple or Trivikrama Perumal Temple is one of the 3 Vishnu temples in the world where God Vishnu gives darshan in the Vamana Avatar as Ulagalanda Perumal or Trivikrama Perumal. In the Ulagalantha Perumal Temple or Trivikrama Perumal Temple temple in contradiction to all other Vishnu temples, God Vishnu’s discuss “Sudharshan Chakram” and his conch (Sangu) “Panchajanyam” are interchanged, the “Sudharshan chakra” is on his left shoulder and the “Panchajanya” on his right shoulder.

Legend has it that God Vishnu took the form of Vamana(Dwarf Brahmin) to subdue the Demon king Mahabali and restore the authority to Indra; Vamana, in the disguise of a short Brahmin carrying a wooden umbrella, went to the king Mahabali to request three foot of land. Mahabali consented against the warning of his Guru. Vamana revealed his identity and enlarged to gigantic proportions to stride over the three worlds. He stepped from heaven to earth with the first step, from earth to the netherworld with the second. King Mahabali, unable to fulfill his promise, offered his head for the third. Vamana then placed his foot and gave the king immortality for his humility.
